TH111 Foundations of Tourism and Hospitality

In this unit, students explore the fundamental concepts, issues and components of the tourism and hospitality industry. Students gain an appreciation of the modern origins of tourism and its colonial history in PNG. Students learn about the interrelationship between tourism and hospitality, as well as the various structures and channels of distribution for tourism and hospitality products and services in Papua New Guinea (PNG), and beyond. Students are equipped with a knowledge of tourism products, modes of travel, tourist segments, and psychological motivations for travel. Students apply this knowledge to develop an understanding of the needs and expectations of overseas tourists visiting PNG, and learn how to develop strategies to meet these needs and expectations, given emerging trends and challenges.
