Dear Students,

Welcome to Planning and Management in Ecotourism. This unit introduces you to Ecotourism as a form of sustainable tourism with planning and management concepts and ideas, and case studies that are relevant to discussing best practices in Ecotourism for Papua New Guinea.  At the Tourism & Hospitality Department, we look forward to providing guidance and assistance in your study journey and look forward to engaging in a successful semester of learning experiences with you.

I am here to provide guidance and assistance in your study journey and look forward to engaging in a successful semester of learning experiences with you.Programme Learning Outcomes:

                    i.            apply the knowledge and skills associated with problem-solving, creative and critical thinking, reflection and decision making to function effectively in the classroom, community and industry;

                   ii.            demonstrate knowledge of multicultural perspectives to meet the needs of the guests and employees.

                 iii.            demonstrate leadership and teamwork to achieve common organisational goals;

                 iv.            lead with the knowledge that the foundation of tourism is based on the respect for the host culture with the responsibility to perpetuate the unique values, traditions, and practices of that place;

                   v.            apply the required wide range of diagnostic skills, involved in the synthesis of ideas and formulation or adaptation of processes to resolve complex local and international tourism issues;

                 vi.            conduct him/herself professionally and ethically, and practice industry-defined work ethics;

               vii.            demonstrate the ability to perform basic and supervisory level job functions in travel and tourism careers;

             viii.            apply knowledge of best practices to further sustainability (economic, environmental, and cultural/social) in the industry;

                 ix.            communicate effectively and confidently in the industry and community.
