In this research project unit, students are guided to produce a report on the implementation of the research proposal they produced in unit RH404 Fundamentals of Research. Students are expected to have collected their data before starting this unit. Special attention is given to the discussion and interpretation of data and the presentation of the report. Crafting skills are developed for sections of the report, such as introduction, literature review, design of the research study, results, discussion, conclusions and recommendations, references, and appendices. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit.

This unit underscores the methodological importance of accurate, relevant and complete data for effective and ‘evidence-based’ decision making by healthcare personnel. It examines the importance of health records for the surveillance, planning and generation of health information; the issues of privacy and computerized data management and the law in record management; the development of procedural documentation and computerized data management bases; and the importance of quality in effective health information management. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be used to support the teaching and learning in this unit.
